You wake up in a fog-covered swamp. The trees are all the same. The path never leads anywhere. And in the distance, a figure stands motionless in the mist.
You don't know how you got here. You don't know if you can leave...
Mistbound is a short, atmospheric visual novel created for the O2A2 Visual Novel Jam. The entire game was planned, written, and coded within one week, using only one character sprite, one background, and one BGM.

What a deliciously handsome dragon! The art is gorgeous. Those choices top left, top right and bottom centre? Different and very cool! Adore the mist name and green grey misty colour palette. Great game!

fair question! :D —he’s not supposed to be “normal” Maybe I didnt show in clearly in the short story but he’s ancient, lonely, and a little unhinged who’s been waiting in the mist for who knows how long. To him, bride means “someone who stays forever” with him. That’s the vibe I was going for. But I can see how it might come off as random without the full context! Anyways Thanks for giving it a shot and sharing your thoughts!

The music is also very well chosen.
I was a little confused by the save feature at first.
But I think it used autosave every now and then at a few key points.

Beautiful artwork, and a clever use of fog, silhouettes and colour to get the most out of it within the bounds of the O2A2 restrictions. The music was very fitting too, I liked the chimes. UI was gorgeous too!
I enjoyed the writing, the situation felt very fey or yokai-esque. It felt like there was probably some secret folklore solution to escape the situation the player wasn't privy to. I got three different endings which is impressive given the word limit. Great work!
